It’s only Me vs Me

When I first began on my fitness journey, I never once thought of my goals were to head where they are directed now. Over time every person has their own personal growth. What changes them. Who supports their change. And who learns with them.
My goals at the beginning of 2010 were set to hit the stage and the possible hopes of training with my inspiration at some point.
Now let’s look at it, the present. Where CrossFit has developed me. How my own personal mindset has changed.

Throughout the years I have learned and proceed to intake knowledge on building strength, becoming faster, refining techniques, nutrition, and mobility. I have been accepted with a family and originally introduced to CrossFit by family, my Mother and her boyfriend. But the biggest take away I learned to love developing on both the mental and physical strength.

My personal growth throughout CrossFit has come with a lot of rewarding experiences. As my love grew for CrossFit, the journey to the body building stage drifted away. Quickly realizing that I was training for everyday life and not just to put myself on a stage to look a certain way, overall wellness. Throughout that process I found the urge to want to compete and step on to a different type of stage. Since August 2010, at the beginning of my CrossFit journey: I have participated/competed in 11 CrossFit Competitions, 1 Tough Mudder, 4 Powerlifting meets, and 1 Strongman competition. All that I could not have found or imagined that it would have been possible with out the family at the gym, and many coaches in the CrossFit community.

Now, just over my 5 year mark of my journey in CrossFit, I take the time to reflect and I can see how I have developed. I still see the awe struck eyes that walk in to the chalk filled air of the garage gym, men and women coming in with a purpose and supporting others along the way. The sense of hope to better themselves MOST not only for their own life, but to do it for their family and set that example. I love seeing people realize that they are progressing! I love seeing people notice they are an inspiration for others, for me as a coach, but for them as well.

I, like every one else who walks into the gym has the hint of self doubt that wanders into our mind at the beginning. “Can I do this?” Very quickly I was able to realize what CrossFit was about, it is here to help assist to make you a better person for your every day life. This sport has given me so much more then just a gym to go to. You can go to any gym and get fitter then you were the day before. But you don’t get a family! You don’t get the camaraderie. I have learned from others, learned how to relate, how to grow, and how to teach men and women to understand that everyone has their own starting point. It is ultimately up to you to listen.
Self doubt isn’t there anymore. The mental strength that has developed over the years has allowed me to see the bumps, but build the strength and see what was and has been gathered is so much greater. I can now look at myself in the mirror and believe in myself, I don’t see myself as my own personal weakness anymore. Overall love who I am, can and will become.
This sport is not about competitions, and it’s not about who is better than who. This is about creating a life that is worth living for yourself CrossFit helps you branch into your inner strength, that hope and self belief, that ends up making you the inspiration for so many, and for yourself in the mirror.
