Wave Loading

  • What is wave loading and how is it useful for weightlifting?

Wave loading:

Wave loading is a lifting scheme where the rep count and weight get adjusted in an ascending or descending pattern.

A good example of wave loading is the previous week of our loading week of the Wendler program:

5 reps at 75%

3 reps at 85%

1 or more reps at 95%

Why do wave loading?

Wave loading has several benefits to athletes such as:

  • Increase Work Capacity
  • Increase Work at 80% and above
  • Increase Size and Strength
  • Increase Explosiveness
  • Utilize Potentiation

Wave training in a way “shocks” the body through a theory called, post activation potentiation. What that does is it triggers a better neuromuscular connection to your working muscles and fires more muscle groups to create more work, which means more gains!
