We Are Weightlifting!

Weightlifting should not be taken lightly (pun intended) and is in my opinion a privilege. Not every human body has developed the strength, body awareness, and the mechanics to lift, push, press, pull, snatch or squat weight.

If you have been gifted the ability to be a weightlifter, you must respect your body and those around you. Safety is always and forever first and foremost!

The following are a few helpful reminders to keep yourself , as well as those around you safe while you crush your weightlifting time at the Box.

  1. Use safety clips!! They were designed for a reason, and must always be on each side of your barbell-NO matter how “light” you feel the weight is, or if you’re just warming up! Bad things happen when we lack attention to detail…

  1. Unload barbell evening-NOT one side at a time! ALWAYS unload the barbell as evenly as possible. If you don’t, it could tip and smack you a nasty blow in the chin. Make sure the weight is always fairly balanced.

  1. Move unused weight plates. Not only is this a safety issue for you, and athletes working around you, but also for your Coach who is walking around keeping a close eye on everyone in their class. Leaving weights lying around causes unneeded clutter and a greater risk of causing injury.
