CFRR Welcomes Coach Remy

Remy here! I’m psyched to be coaching at CFRR! I wanted to introduce myself to you! Please enjoy some interesting and not so interesting facts about me 🙂 I can’t wait to see you all in class!

Interesting facts about me –

I’ve been Crossfiting since 2013, and as I’ve evolved as a person, my relationship with the sport has evolved. I’m not here to be at the top of the leaderboard anymore, I’m here so that I can walk when I’m 75. I’m here so that I’m thriving at 75.

I’ve been playing competitive Ultimate Frisbee since 2000 – places I’ve traveled to for tournaments; Spain, Italy, Dubai, Boracay, Winnipeg, Cabo, the Dominican Republic, and at least 20 states including Hawaii (8 years in a row!). I represented the US at Beach Worlds in Dubai in 2015 at the Mixed Master’s level (co-ed, age 30+), and won 2 Beach ultimate championships in the US and 2 Master’s championships on grass. (Yep, I’m almost always #23 and yes, it’s in honor of the greatest basketball player of all time. Yes… I’m from Chicago, why do you ask?)

While largely retired from playing Ultimate at this point (I won a gold medal last summer and decided to retire on a high), I am still organizing actively, and I’m doing some coaching on the field I’ve been a technical recruiter for my whole career, 20 years now – essentially, I help companies hire and I’m currently running recruiting for a start-up AI software company

I am a perpetual learner.

I have 2 dogs (who very much don’t get along with each other) and 3 siblings (who very much do get along with each other).

Boring facts about me –

I’m left-handed.

I recently took a class in which we read The Iliad and The Odyssey and the actual stories therein are not the truncated versions they taught us in elementary school.

I drink no less than 100 oz of water / day and in an effort to avoid eating ultra-processed food, I make my own bread and granola.
