September Athlete of the Month – Robert Garza

Robert has been a member at CFRR for 2 years now. He is part of the 7pm Wonders of the World & welcomes all new members with open arms. Sometimes he doesn’t know his own strength. So as his coach, watching him hit PR after PR with a smile of his face, has been so fulfilling. His outlook on his training goals pretty much sums up one of the reasons we chose him to be the Athlete of the Month.

When asked what his training goals are he answered, “My training goals are for me to focus on making health and fitness a permanent part of my life. I try to look at working out and fitness as a long term slow and deliberate process, rather than a quick short term fix. My time at CFRR has taught me to trust the process and the results will appear. I want to consistently improve on my strength, flexibility, and balance. In addition, I also understand that I need to have a consistent and long term nutrition plan.”

THAT, my friends, is what Functional Fitness & CFRR is all about! We are so proud of you Robert! Thank you for being a part of the CFRR family!

What is your biggest motivation?

My biggest motivation is to be better every day.

Your favorite quote or words to live by?

Treat people how you would like to be treated

What is your current training goals/PRs?

My training goals are for me to focus on making health and fitness a permanent part of my life.   I try to look at working out and fitness as a long term slow and deliberate process then a quick short term fix.  My time at CFRR has taught me to trust the process and the results will appear.   I want to consistently improve on my strength, flexibility, and balance.    In addition, I also understand that I need to have a consistent and long term nutrition plan.

Take us back to your first day of CrossFit… How did you feel? How do you compare it to workouts today?

My first day of CrossFit class, I felt overwhelmed and thought that I was never going to be able to do the WOD.  Now, I look forward to class and try to do the best that I can on that day and just trust the process.

What advice do you have for new athletes just starting out in CrossFit?

Trust the process! The results will come they may not happen as quickly as you would like.  Don’t be intimidated, everyone has to start somewhere.  The most important thing to do is just start somewhere.  CFRR is for everyone not just elite athletes.

Tell us about a moment you felt most proud of yourself during a workout?

We are told to log our WOD after every workout.  When I log a workout that perhaps we did in the past and then I see that I have improved makes me feel proud.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

My hobbies are international travel, hiking with my dog, sporting events, weekend trips, and politics.  I have been a legal aid attorney for 22 years so advocating for social justices causes are a big part of my life.

What’s your favorite part of CrossFit Round Rock?

My favorite part about CrossFit Round Rock is the coaches and the members.  The coaches are super supportive of its athletes.  The members are all really nice and supportive.   They are always open to assist you if you need assistance or provide you with advice about how to do a movement correctly.

If you could create a WOD and name it for yourself, what would it be?

The WOD would consist of wall balls, rowing, and biking.  I would call it RoboCardioBooster.

How has your diet changed since starting CrossFit (if it has), and what foods do you rely on most?

My diet has changed drastically since I have joined CFRR.  I am now much more mindful of what I eat.  I have incorporated more lean meats, vegetables, and fruits.
