May Athlete of the Month – Yolonda Moore

Being one of the most committed members of the 5am crew, Yolonda is so many things that we love about our community and humanity in general. She’s not only the life of the party and your biggest cheerleader, but she also comes to work each and every workout.

We are honored to have her as our May athlete of the month.

If you find yourself needing to jump into a 5am class, then rest assured you’ll have a fast friend, cheerleader and accountability partner in Yolonda!

  1. What was a misconception you had about CrossFit?

I thought that CrossFit was for super-fit people who were looking for a challenge. I never believed it was for me.

  1. What motivates you?

As I get older I want to be healthy and strong to move on my own to run and play with my grandchildren.  I want to look good and be good, strong able to move without walker.

  1. What are your training goals?

Ultimately, I want to be able to do handstand pushups and box jump 36 inches and do pull ups!!!

4. What’s a moment you felt very proud of yourself in a workout?

The first time I was able to jump rope and the first time I actually box jumped!!! Nathan was my coach at the time, and he said you want to try it? He smiled handed me the jump rope and said let’s see.  I did it!!!  It was a feeling I can’t describe it was like the heaven’s opened up and the sun shined down, and I could jump rope!!!!

Another time I was doing box steps on two 45lbs plates and I asked Nathan to come over so he could catch me if I fall, and I jumped and jumped and it was amazing!!!

  1. What advice would you give someone that’s thinking about joining CrossFit?

Do it! Don’t think just do it!! There is something you can do everything can be modified for you to get a good workout no matter where you are.  Do it! You’ll find your people your tribe.  CrossFit Round Rock has been more than my gym or where I work out it’s my people, my community, my tribe! Every single person I have met on this journey has been amazing, supportive, caring, fun, full of energy and always willing to help you get to your goals.

6.  How has CrossFit changed your life outside of the gym?

      It has made my busy life better I can make it through track meets full of energy!  I can do more it amazes me all the time I can do stuff.  I can walk a few miles.  I have more range of motion in my knees no struggle carrying groceries.  I’m looking forward to when the outside matches the inside in the meantime, I’m just trying to get better every day!!!!

7. What’s your favorite part about the community here?

     The Community!!!!  I love all the people here! None are fake or phony. Real people who have their flaws, their situations, their issues, their things that are out of their control, but they come together to work on this thing they can control their health and it’s amazing!!! They compete against each other, they support each other, they enjoy each other’s company!!! They are a big reason why I keep coming at 5am because my day wouldn’t be the same without them!!!
