August Athlete of the Month – Zach Bockewitz

We are honored to announce our August Athlete of the Month – This athlete is one who the coaches agree is an individual who is committed to CrossFit and to reaching his goals, as well as helping those around him to be the best CrossFitter they can be.

Zach Bockewitz is known for being a well-oiled machine and mastery of momentum – no matter the task at hand, he understands it’s the quality of training that influences your progress, more than the quantity, and pours every ounce of effort into his workouts! Get to know him a little better…

1) What is your biggest motivation?

The opportunity to use every day as an opportunity to be better a better human.

2) Your favorite quote or words to live by?

One of many, but “The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.”

3) What is your current training goals/PRs?

To string together muscle-ups and start going to a couple of Oly classes a month.

4) Take us back to your first day of CrossFit… How did you feel? How do you compare it to workouts today?

I was a little nervous, I had just moved to Round Rock from Maryland so I was in a new town where I didn’t know anyone. The workouts are definitely still tough, but I’m handling them much better especially with the coaches there to help.

5) What advice do you have for new athletes just starting out in CrossFit?

Don’t let yourself get wrapped up in comparing yourself to how other people are performing, just focus on what you’re doing and what you need to do to improve. When you feel like you’re having a bad day, remember your why; Why it is you wanted to start doing CrossFit. Trust the process and trust the people around you to help, they only want to see you succeed.

6) Tell us about a moment you felt most proud of yourself during a workout?

Last year’s Murph, I felt pretty good for having finished it and that was the hottest it’s ever been that I’ve done that workout.

7) What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

Outside of the gym, I like doing shooting competitions, but my main interest is in emergency medicine. I also like reading and I study ASL at school as a foreign language.

8) What’s your favorite part of CrossFit Round Rock?

I love belonging to a group of people who just want to see you crush your goals and get better. I also love that the coaches take a vested interest in and care about the overall fitness of every member of the community.

9) If you could create a WOD and name it for yourself, what would it be?

I like the Olympic lifts and deadlift. I’d throw some gymnastic stuff in there too, either pull-ups, muscle-ups, or handstand walks.

10) How has your diet changed since starting CrossFit (if it has), and what foods do you rely on most?

I started eating more balanced meals and smaller meals more often instead of just eating out or eating fast food between classes and workouts.
