In Motion with Coach Anna

Hello, fellow fit folks!  I’d like to reintroduce myself to the CrossFit Round Rock community!  Many of you already know me, but there are indeed many new faces that I need to get to know!

First, let me take care of a little business.  ☺ I will be making this as BRIEF as possible. Actually…I have a lot I want to say.  But I know you’ll stop reading. So this post, and ALLLL the posts coming up (yes, you are going to be hearing more from me!), my goal is to keep it brief.  And if I ever leave unanswered questions out there, you better just holler at me so I can fill in the gaps!

Now for the introduction.  I started coaching at CrossFit Round Rock the summer of 2012.  CrossFit became the compass to my career and personal health journey.  I, like many of the other CFRR coaches, am CrossFit L1 and L2 certified.  In 2016 my journey into motherhood began. It was a bumpy ride into mommy land, but I have arrived, and with that transition, I have found myself buried in continuing education specific to women’s health and fitness.  Much of this prenatal and postpartum focus began with a BirthFit and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization certificate course, and currently, I am undertaking a Coach’s Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Course by Brianna Battles.  It is my goal to continually dig deeper into my education and hands-on experience so that I may truly be a resource to my community.

Since we’re all pretty real with each other around here, I’ll share a tad about my personal story as well.  The first 4 years of my CrossFit journey outside of coaching included me just personally loving CrossFit. I trained long hours as often as I could in pursuit of being competitive in our local area.  Setting and reaching goals was truly addictive! I love feeling strong, capable, and independent. At the start of 2016, I began to have excruciating low back/hip pain. Shortly after the pain arrived, I became pregnant for the first time.  We lost that pregnancy at 9 weeks gestation and my whole world felt like it was unraveling. My pain was keeping me from training, and I was struggling to get answers or resolve to my “injury”. My heart was broken and starting my family became all-consuming.    Wheeeew! Guys. This is supposed to be brief! So. Let’s fast forward. July 20th, 2017 my daughter was born, and around 5-6 months after she was born, I realized my body was not healing in postpartum land as it should.  The tissue that should be approximating my rectus abdominal muscles was just simply… not. Which left my core function deeply compromised and an aesthetic element that further became a hurdle to return to life as I knew it.  So of course, this has been a huge player in my journey and continuing education. What can an athlete do with a dysfunctional core? I haven’t been super talkative about this over the last 2 years that I have personally been in the diastasis/hernia trenches because I just needed to not be IN it so much.  I had to get to the other side of the dark tunnel and gain a deeper understanding before it made sense to really share. And a part of me felt like I was already supposed to know or even be protected from this sort of thing. (what a delicious piece of humble pie!)

SO yes.  I’m ready.  I’m ready to share and to talk and to step fully into the CFRR community as a resource.

Currently, you will find me at CFRR on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.  I am the creator and coach for CFRR’s “Ladies F.I.T.” program! We meet at 4:30 pm on Tuesdays and 11 am on Saturdays.  Drop-in classes are $25 if you would ever like to come hop in to check out what we’re doing in there!

A little about CFRR’s “Ladies F.I.T.” program!   F= female’s I= intentional T= training. “Intentional” means that we are training with different considerations for the female anatomy.  Intentionally. It means that we choose an intention for every workout that serves us that day. It means that the strategies we choose during a workout always prioritize longevity for our health and fitness.  It’s not always about being pregnant or postpartum. All stages, stories, chapters, and journeys in life have a place in this class.

I love love love to coach.  Every human I’ve ever had in a class holds a special place in my heart, and still, the current scope focus on my ladies program is deeply fulfilling for me.

You’re going to be hearing more from me in social media land with occasional posts of tidbits for your brains to mull over.

So there!  How’s that for brief!
