September Athlete of the Month – Laci Pounds

Laci…her name says it all. The name “Laci” means a cheerful or great, peaceful leader. She prefers to be a silent leader and mostly flys undetected. She is as modest as they come but we are calling her out this month.
If you don’t know Laci very well, you are missing out. She joined our community in February 2018 and has been a staple at the 5 AM class ever since. Her soul is kind, her attitude is always upbeat and her smile is contagious. Never wanting attention or seeking validation, Laci just shows up, works on her game and makes those around her better. Help us in congratulating Laci on a job well done and being named the September 2020 Athlete of the Month.

1) What is your biggest motivation?

I don’t want to miss out on awesome activities in life because I am not physical able to participate.

2) Your favorite quote or words to live by?

Let not your heart be trouble you believe in God. – John 14:1

3) What is your current training goals/PRs?

Honestly, my current training goal is to show up, especially on days when it feels like to much.

4) Take us back to your first day of CrossFit… How did you feel? How do you compare it to workouts today?

I was extremely nervous and worried that I wouldn’t be able to do any of the work-outs. Today it is a love hate relationship. Some of the workouts I dread, like anything with running, but once they are done I am so glad I showed up!

5) What advice do you have for new athletes just starting out in CrossFit?

Modify!! Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing only worry about showing up and doing your best. It is better to get through a workout then hurt yourself trying to keep up.

6) Tell us about a moment you felt most proud of yourself during a workout?

I don’t remember what work out it was but it included a lot of running. Normally when there was a lot of running I would have to walk a portion. This day was the first time I completed the whole workout and ran the entire time. It was this first time I felt like i was actually improving!

7) What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I love to my church family and volunteering to with our church youth group, traveling with friends and family, reading, and my friends and I make cakes for the kiddos in our lives (not the regular old icing kind but the time consuming fondant covered ones.).

8) What’s your favorite part of CrossFit Round Rock?

The dedication from you guys to welcome everyone in and help us stay on track with our goals.

 9) If you could create a WOD and name it for yourself, what would it be?

I am not really sure what kind of WOD I would create. But I enjoy workouts that have sledge strikes, ab work and rowing…
